The Zimbabwe Women’s Soccer League (ZWSL) kicked off this weekend with a leaner 16 teams that included two promoted sides Magwegwe and City of Harare Queens.
There were some mismatches in some of the match day one fixtures as Cyclone Stars lost to Mutare based Faith Drive 2-3 at Chirodzo Primary School in Mbare.
Black Rhinos Queens thrashed ZRP Queens 6-1 at HQ 2 Brigade Barracks.
Mighty Warriors players’ Kudakwashe Basopo and Felistars Muzongondi scored a brace each with Emmaculate Msipa and Sibonginkosi Nleya weighed in with a goal apiece.
Midlands State University beat newcomers Harare City Queens 1-0 at MSU while Auckland beat Borrow Jets 2-0 at Herman Gmeiner School in Bindura.
Correctional Services also thumped ZRP Harare 5-0 at Wagadhugu Stadium while Air Force of Zimbabwe side Blue Swallows thrashed Hearts of Oak 12-0 in a one sided affair at Manyame Airbase in the capital.
Conduit Soccer Academy lost 0-3 to Herentals at Madhodha Stadium in Guruve.
Weerams and Zvishavane are yet to play their match.
The league which was supposed to kick off initially on the 24th of March was pushed further to April to allow the Mighty Warriors to prepare for the 2019 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations matches against Namibia whose finals will be held in Ghana, which Zimbabwe won by a 4-0 goal aggregate.
The postponement also allowed the ZWSL to complete registration formalities including affiliation fees, player and technical officials as well as club registrations after a chaotic season last season which began with 22 clubs and ended abruptly.
The league was also marred by squabbles over fixtures and transport and referee fees subsidies.
