Swedish Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Ms Sofia Calltorp and United Nations Resident Coordinator Mr Bishow Parajuli have pledged their unwavering support for women’s rights and empowerment in Zimbabwe.
The Swedish Ambassador was among the many women who attended President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s conversation with women in Harare.
Ms Calltorp said Sweden is a strong advocate of women’s rights at home and it has extended that stance in its foreign policy including in Zimbabwe and other countries overseas.
The Nordic country supports the implementation of many women empowerment programmes in Zimbabwe.
The UN representative, Mr Parajuli said women’s rights are an inseparable component and the United Nations will continue to rally behind Zimbabwe to ensure the attainment of the sustainable development goals which include women upliftment.
Several women from diverse backgrounds had the opportunity to sit side by side with the Head of State and engage him in conversation before taking selfies with him.
Other partners of the women’s groups include Oxfam and UN Women which is the global champion for gender equality, working to develop and uphold standards of women.
Poetry and song from female artists among them jazz songstress Dudu Manhenga serenaded the gathering the whole afternoon.
