The Harare Agricultural Show is exhibiting the transformative story of an economy that can boom once all the fundamentals are put in place.

This is the story being shared by 30 women from Matabeleland Province.

A group of 30 women from Matabeleland North and South are exhibiting their thriving micro-finance businesses in agriculture, sewing, weaving, wood curving among other projects.

Provincial development officer in the Ministry of Women Affairs Matabeleland North Province Mrs Marjory Sikundla said the women are generating sufficient income and urged other women to utilise opportunities such as the recently opened women’s bank.

“Women need to be empowered through such business programmes to earn a living,” she said.

A female chief, Chief Sinqobile Mabhena from Umzingwane said she is impressed by the work being done by the women who are proving that they can also claim their share in rebuilding the economy with wares that if exported can bring in foreign currency.

“We want to make sure that our people have better lives,” she said.

The women are being supported by a local financial institution which also awarded the best exhibitors where Beitbridge district won the $1 000 prize money.
