Women in the informal sector have been called upon to empower themselves through training in marketing skills for their businesses to grow.

Several business women in the informal sector, most of them, widows, received a boost following the completion of a training programme in entrepreneurship.

One of the speakers at a belated International Women’s Day ceremony held in Harare, Mrs Florence Chaurura urged women in small businesses to be bold and daring so as to improve their businesses.

The Minister of State for Harare Province, Cde Miriam Chikukwa, commended the businesswomen and pledged government’s commitment to ensure an enabling and peaceful environment conducive for business.

The five months intensive training course was designed to equip women, most of whom had never attended formal education, with skills in running successful businesses.

The women received certificates after completing the training programme.
