womenn.jpgSenate President Cde Ednah Madzongwe has emphasized the importance of the full participation of women in the current Constitution Making Process so that their rights, wishes and aspirations are enshrined and guaranteed in the supreme law of the land.

Cde Madzongwe made the remarks at the sidelines of the Zimbabwe Women Parliamentary Caucus Constitution Making outreach programme in Harare where she advised all women in Zimbabwe to be active participants in the Constitution Making Process so that their issues can be articulated fully.

“All women of Zimbabwe have been given an opportunity to provide their views about their wishes and aspirations in the constitution. If you do not participate fully we will have no one to blame,” said Cde Madzongwe.

Chairperson of the Zimbabwe Women Parliamentary Caucus Cde Beatrice Nyamupinga said the programme also includes men who make up a larger percentage of the legislators in the current parliament to get their full support in lobbying for a gender sensitive constitution.

Legislators from MDC–T also said the participation of women in the Constitution Making Process is critical in that their concerns can be enshrined in the country’s supreme law.

The outreach programme by the Zimbabwe Women Parliamentary Caucus is expected to be conducted in all the country’s ten provinces so that the Constitution Making Process includes the views of people from all the country’s wards districts and wards.
