A delegation of women councillors and some council representatives is set for the second Gender Justice and Local Government summit in South Africa from the 28th to the 30th of this month.

Women councillors who spoke to ZBC News said the summit gives them a platform to boost their confidence.

Executive Director of a local NGO, Ms Priscilla Maposa said the country is still lagging behind in attaining the 50-50% representation in decision making. Currently women occupy 18% of decision making posts.

This summit comes weeks after the International Women’s Day commemorations that were held world wide on the 8th of this month.

The second Gender Justice and Local Government summit is meant to popularise the SADC protocol on gender and development vision of having a 50-50% representation between men and women by 2015.
