Sean Williams has powered Zimbabwe to a 4-match ODI series win, posting an unbeaten 109 as Chevrons beat the UAE by 133 runs at Harare Sports Club to take an unassailable 3-nil lead.
The UAE were put through yet another tough examination with the Chevrons’ batsmanship proving far superior.
This was made possible courtesy of Williams’ third ODI century, an unbeaten 84-ball 109, that helped Zimbabwe post 307 for 4.
Williams’ century came off 77 balls, the fastest ever in an ODI by a Zimbabwean.
Earlier, Zimbabwe lost Regis Chakabva early on for 1 but a 104-run partnership between Solomon Mire and Craig Ervine followed before the former was out for 40 to Zahoor Khan.
Ervine, in red hot form this year, could not convert his 12th half century into a big one falling for 64, bowled by Rohan Mustafa.
Williams by then had started his jaunt but was dropped by Naveed after having skied a top-edge for 31.
He took full advantage of it first with Sikandar Raza who made 18 and an unbeaten 145-run partnership with skipper Peter Moor 58 not out.
When Kyle Jarvis took two wickets in three balls during the third over, an arduous task became mission impossible at 9-2. Chris Mpofu in for Tendai Chatara made it 15-3 removing Rohan Mustafa for 9.
Chundangapoyil Rizwan(47) and Muhammad Usman(49) provided resistance but once that partnership was broken a procession followed with Ryan Burl returning career best figures of 4-32.
In the end UAE were bowled out for 176 after 46.2 overs.
Jarvis returned 2-20 while Raza had 2-40.
Zimbabwe take a 3-0 lead, with the final series match set for Tuesday.
