Wheelchair Tennis Association of Zimbabwe Vice President, Olga Chisango said the third member of the team, Nyarai Nechiturike, was dropped from the team after a decision was reached to trim the squad from three to two due to a shortage of financial resources.
The selected players who had been training at Harare International School expressed confidence that they will do well in Nairobi despite challenges experienced during preparations.
Chisango said her association had to plead with the International Tennis Federation (ITF) to pay for the return airfares after battling to secure sponsors.
The team was invited to take part in the regional qualifiers in Nairobi, Kenya from the 29th to the 3rd of March.
Zimbabwe had been requested to send teams in all three categories, men, women and juniors but lack of resources forced the association to nominate the women’s team.
The ITF provided a grant of $1 500 after the association pleaded for assistance.
