This was said by COPAC co-chairperson, Cde Munyaradzi Paul Mangwana.

He said the country is exporting legal skills to other African countries which is a sign that Zimbabweans are capable of drafting a constitution.

A legal expert, Mr. Fortune Chasi said during the outreach programme, Zimbabweans presented their views which were understood by Zimbabweans, hence introducing foreigners might not reflect well on the outcome.

He said the 1999 and the Kariba Drafts were written by local legal personnel so there is no reason to bring in people from outside.

These comments by Cde Mangwana and Mr. Chasi come after the reports indicating that some political parties and a clique in the constitution select committee are advocating for the engagement of foreign nationals in the coming phases of the constitution making process.

Donors are also understood to be pushing to take part in the drafting exercise.

Cde Mangwana says COPAC has made it clear to them that the process is for Zimbabweans only.
