Residents of Masvingo have gone for more than a week without consistent water supply following the breakdown of two pumps at Bushmead Water Works.

The city fathers say they are working to get the situation under control.

Following more than a week of inconsistent water supply in most parts of Masvingo City, city engineer Tawanda Gozo has attributed this to the breakdown of two of the three pumps at Bushmead Water Works.

He said given that only one pump is functioning, council is failing to provide residents with adequate supplies.

“If the situation is normal we use 2 pumps and one will be on standby. But right now we are using just one pump and we have taken the other broken down one to Harare to get it fixed,” said Engineer Gozo.

The council’s Chief Health and Environmental Officer Mr Zvapano Munganasa said in the meantime they are providing water to the affected areas and urged residents to avoid using bush toilets.

Chairperson of the caretaker council Mr Goddard Dunira said all efforts are being made to ensure that the situation returns to normalcy.

Residents in some of the affected areas have also been urged to utilise the boreholes close to their areas.
