Warriors Midfielder Marvelous Nakamba’s move to English Premier League side Aston Villa has brought a lot of joy to his family, with his father revealing that it was a dream come true.
Such was the talented midfielder’s excitement when he signed for Aston Villa and while that was happening, thousands of kilometres away in the City of Bulawayo, Nakamba’s parents were glowing with pride.
Nakamba’s father, Anthony spoke of the joy that engulfed the family home when his son put pen to paper.
“We are so happy as a family. We just don’t know how to express it. We have waited for this time for a very long time,” said Mr Nakamba.
It was also revealed that owing to his focused character, Nakamba had opened doors for his family to travel around the world, something they never dreamt of during the days they were renting a one roomed house in Njube.
“Im so happy with his move. We have managed to see Europe, which we never dreamt of. We managed to stay in Netherlands for two months. I did not know Europe, but thanks to my son, I ended up getting to know Germany and Switzerland. I am so happy for my son because now I know many parts of Europe, thanks to him,” he added.
The bond between father and son was more obvious than apparent during a telephone call which was manifest of what the latest development means.
Affectionately known as ‘Bunjira’ as he was inspired by former CAPS United Striker Alois Bunjira, the former Bantu Rovers midfielder showed early signs of a football star in the making at the age of six.
He eventually turned out for teams such as Njube Sundowns, Highlanders, Grassroots and then Bantu Rovers before turning himself into a vital cog in the Warriors set up.
However, his immediate task is an encounter between Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspurs this weekend.
