Zimbabwe’s COSAFA squad received hero’s welcome as jubilant fans thronged Harare International Airport this Tuesday night to give the Warriors a reception worth of victors.
Hundreds of football lovers patiently weathered the otherwise chill night waiting for the arrival of the Zimbabwe Warriors who were initially scheduled to land at 20:40hrs but only arrived 3 hours later after a flight delay.
Still the delay did not dampen the mood.
COSAFA squad assistant coach Bongani Mafu said the success could be attributed to the discipline and organisational efficiency displayed by the team.
Co-captains Ovidy Karuru and Ocean Mushure added that it is such an attitude that is needed in the Warriors’ next assignment, the CHAN tournament.
ZIFA communications officer Xolisani Gwesela, however, was evasive on the association’s decision to engage Sunday Chidzambwa for the CHAN tournament which the association had initially assigned Rahman Gumbo to take charge of.
Gwesela said ZIFA did not categorically state the appointments but promised to review them.
A squad of locally based players has trooped into camp to begin preparations for the CHAN qualifiers which begin this weekend with a fixture against Namibia.
