Warriors head coach, Sunday ‘Mhofu’ Chidzambwa says complacency had a major bearing on Sunday’s 1-nil defeat to Liberia, a result which will see Zimbabwe having to get a result in their last Group G encounter against Congo Brazzaville in March next year.
Mhofu and his team returned home on Tuesday afternoon a disappointed lot.
There was widespread criticism surrounding the inclusion of Willard Katsande in the team and the opportunities that were not converted by Tinotenda Kadewere but Chidzambwa said the loss to Liberia is water under the bridge, hence the need to focus on the team’s next assignment.
The Warriors were on Sunday a shadow of their usual self especially having produced impeccable performances against the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Sunday’s defeat was unexpected and placed a dark cloud on the Warriors qualification bid. Despite the setback in Liberia, it is still game on for the Warriors who still require a point in order to book qualification for the 2019 AFCON showpiece to be held in Cameroon.
