handcuffs.jpgA warrant of arrest has been issued for the owner and publisher of The Zimbabwean newspaper, Wilf Mbanga, who is facing charges of publishing a false story.

Mbanga is alleged to have published a story in December 2008 in which he claimed that the late director of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) Mr. Ignatius Mushangwe, was murderd.

The story further claimed that a meeting was held to discuss the elimination of Mr. Mushangwe.

The paper alleges that the meeting was attended by President Mugabe, Senior Zanu(PF) and ZEC officials.

Police investigations have revealed that no such a meeting was held and the story was allegedly meant to tarnish the image of President Mugabe.

Mbanga is reported to be in the United Kingdom.
