The crime consultative committees have declared war against criminals and pledged to continue working with the police in curbing crime this year.
The suburbs of Mbare and Epworth in Harare are known for being the hubs for criminals.
However, the year 2012 is expected to change the perception.
Crime consultative chairpersons for Mbare and Epworth say they have increased their network to ensure all culprits are dealt with.
The chairperson for Mbare District, who is also a retired senior police officer, Senior Assistant Commissioner Mike Muzofa said the police cannot fight crime in isolation, adding that the involvement of communities through the crime consultative committees is going to significantly reduce the rate of crimes in the capital.
Another chairperson of the crime consultative committees for Epworth and Chitungwiza, Mr Shilling Chibanda said his teams are this year geared up to help curb cases of politically motivated violence and other crimes which are rife in the areas under their jurisdiction.
The introduction of the crime consultative and the business against crime committees have assisted the ZRP in coming up with people oriented approaches to curb criminal activities in residential areas.
