Vice President John Nkomo has called on the business community to stop the arbitrary increase of prices of goods and services, saying the practice is unethical and causes inflation.
Speaking at a business initiative at Nkulumane Shopping Centre in Bulawayo, Cde Nkomo noted that under the multi-currency system, businesses can thrive by aiming at low profit margins while maximising on volumes.
He challenged wholesalers and retailers, who have been identified as main culprits in the business malpractice of price hikes to desist from the practice.
“The liberalisation of the economy demands discipline in the pricing mechanism and can therefore help suppress inflation,†Cde Nkomo said.
Cde Nkomo however assured the business community that government will continue to engage them in reviewing policy and tariffs for sustainable growth and expansion.
