Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa is on a tour of ARDA Antelope Estate where there is a thriving wheat crop at the moment.

He was received by the Minister of State for Matabeleland South Cde Abednico Ncube.

The Acting President Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa says 1.8 million families will be supported under the US$154 million Presidential Input Scheme allotment in the coming summer season as government steps up efforts to improve food security and regain its breadbasket status.

Speaking during his tour of ARDA Antelope Estate in Maphisa Matobo district today, Cde Mnangagwa applauded ARDA for its role in transforming the country’s fortunes through increased agriculture production saying to date 500 000 metric tonnes of maize have been delivered to the Grain Marketing Board.

Minister of State Security, Cde Kembo Mohadi said while government has over the years been drawing up brilliant people centred policies the implementers have sometimes been a letdown.

The vision of government is for the two ARDA estates in Matabeleland South to increase production to at least 1000 hectares each by the fourth season.

ARDA Antelope Estate is on track as it will in the summer season plant 750 hectares of the maize crop.

The estate and its partners are currently seized with establishing a milling plant in Maphisa in fulfillment of the ZIM ASSET objective on value addition and beneficiation.
