The ZDF is renowned the world over for their excellent work in various regional and international peace keeping missions.

Some of the force’s leading generals today have passed through these international peacekeeping and monitoring missions like United Nations Angola Verification Mission, United Nations Operation in Somalia and several United Nations missions.

The Vice President said the ZDF has transformed over the years into a respectable force regionally and internationally.

Besides the forces achievements in peace missions, they have also made strides in bettering their education and training through the establishment of the Zimbabwe National Defence University housed at the Alfred Nikita Mangena Barracks where the President and Commander-in-Chief Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa graced the graduation ceremony of the 6th National Defence Course, which is the highest course offered and flagship of the institution that produced the think tank on national security matters.

Turning to community service the ZDF has changed focus from community cleaning week to projects that are needed in communities such infrastructure for schools and health services.

This year’s ZDF celebrations were held under the theme, “Zimbabwe Defence Forces Day: Dedicated to the Defence of National Sovereignty, Stability and Socio-economic Development”.
