Chivi Rural District Council Chairperson Cde Killer Zivhu has launched a voter registration campaign in Masvingo to ensure that rural folk have all the necessary documents to enable them to vote.
As the 2018 general elections draw closer, voter registration has been cited as key to ensure that the masses exercise their constitutional right to choose their leaders.
Cde Zivhu says every councillor in the rural areas should ensure that at least 1 500 people in their wards register to vote.
He noted that some rural folk do not have national IDs, hence there is need to ensure that they are assisted to acquire these documents.
“We have a lot of people who are not eligible to vote because they do not have documents. We want each councillor to work until they register at least,” said Cde Zivhu.
Cde Zivhu said the voter registration drive will also be spread to other provinces.
The country is set to hold general elections on or before the 31st of July next year.
