Zanu PF Secretary for Women’s Affairs has called on women to support and vote for competent female candidates in this year’s harmonised elections to increase women’s participation in politics.
The call was made during the party’s ‘Meet the Women Rally,’ held at the party’s convention centre in Gweru.
Secretary for Women Affairs, Cde Marble Chinomona told party supporters that it is high time women support and vote for competent female candidates who understand women’s challenges.
She said the 50 percent representation in leadership and decision making positions can only be attained if women have confidence in each other and support those participating in the harmonised elections.
Zanu PF Midlands Provincial Women’s League Chairperson, Cde Ellinah Shirichena said 54 percent of registered voters in the province are women, adding that they will give the ruling party a resounding victory.
In his welcoming remarks, the Minister of State for Midlands Province, Cde Owen Ncube urged women to continue working hard so that aspirations envisaged by the new dispensation are realised.
The rally was held under the theme: ‘Defending Our Legacy and Dignity Through Our Vote.’
