The Zimbabwe National Volleyball League got off to an exciting start at the University of Zimbabwe (UZ) courts with “The Citizens” City of Harare getting a good start to the league.

Zimbabwe National Volleyball League (ZNVL) kicked off with some exciting encounters on Saturday.

In the very first match of the 2018 league, UZ beat NUST men 3-0.

UZ won the first set 26-24, the second 25-19 and 25-10 in the third set.

In the second match of the day, Harare City also beat CUT men 3-0, winning 25-16 in the first set, 25-22 in the second and 25-22 in the third set.

Match three pitted Hurricanes and CUT women in a five set thriller.

Hurricanes won 3-2 losing the first set 23-25, won the second 25-23, lost the third 16-25, won the fourth 25-11 and clinched the decider 15-11.

Army side Black Rhinos faced NUST men in match 4. 

The soldiers clinched the match 3-1, won the first set 28-26, the second 25-19, lost the third 23-25, and won the fourth 25-12.

Day 2 (yesterday) saw Black Rhinos narrowly going down 2-3 to NABA in an exciting match that went to five sets.

Rhinos won the first set 26-24, lost the second 17-25, again lost the third 16-25, before winning the fourth 25-22 and losing 6-15 in the decider to NABA.

In the women’s league “The Citizens” and defending champions Harare City thrashed Chinhoyi University of Technology 3-0, winning the first set 25-9, the second 25-18, and 25-8 in ruthless fashion.

NABA lost to “The Citizens” Harare City men 3-1 in another thriller, going down 19-25 in the first set, 22-25 in the second, before bouncing back to win the third 25-22 and losing 9-15 in the fourth.

UZ women thrashed Hurricanes 3-1 in the final game on Sunday (yesterday) winning 25-18 the first set, 25-16 the second, losing the third 23-25 and winning the final set 25-23.
