Village savings and producer group schemes have capacitated rural communities to embark on developmental projects and reduce poverty levels in rural Chipinge with Matikwa Group working on a rural electrification programme among other developmental initiatives.

Matikwa Savings and Producer Group in Chipinge’s ward 26 is one of the local village’s home grown empowerment initiatives that has reduced poverty levels in the community.

Under the Savings and Producer Group Scheme, villagers contribute money and invest it to generate more revenue with Matikwa Group now targeting to embark on a rural electrification programme according to the group’s vice chairperson Mr Mariton Hove and the local councilor Misheck Busa Ngabanye.

Matikwa Savings Group members who were sharing part of their profit ahead of the festive season said the scheme is helping to sustain livelihoods and reduce poverty levels in the village.

The rains did not stop the celebrations by group members who were happy about the success of the home grown empowerment initiative that has helped the group to generate thousands of dollars.
