tree falls.jpgSix people were seriously injured at Harare’s Mbare Musika after a tree was brought down by heavy winds and trapped vendors who were selling their wares.

Some eyewitnesses who spoke to ZBC News blamed the City Council for not creating a safe environment, arguing that the tree had been burnt but council had not moved in to cut it down.

Another witness who spoke to ZBC News off-camera said the Fire Brigade rescue team arrived at the scene on time, only to start operations minutes later as they had brought the wrong equipment such as fire extinguishers instead of cranes and other relevant equipment.

Cases of properties being damaged by falling trees have been reported almost every rainy season.

Some experts contend that some Harare trees which are mostly exotic are now too old and have to be replaced.
