Mashonaland Central Province has been one of the worst affected provinces in terms of veld fire destruction.

Thousands of hectares of land have gone up in smoke and lives lost to veld fires over the years in Mashonaland Central.

Most of these fires are attributed to unscrupulous human activities such as hunting of mice, smoking out of bees and land clearing.

Speaking at the Mashonaland Central Provincial fire season awareness launch Acting Director in the office of the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs, Mr Admore Shereni at said it is a prerequisite for individuals to construct fireguard to prevent disasters.

Environmental Management Agency (EMA) provincial manager for Mashonaland Central Mr Robert Rwafa urged farmers to form community fire-fighting teams as a mitigatory measure to veld fire menace.

The fire season commemorations Ruthbery farm, ward 34 in Mazowe district under the theme, “Veld Fire Prevention – My Responsibility”.
