The Cotton Company of Zimbabwe (Cottco), has urged farmers to come on board and benefit from the Presidential Cotton Inputs Support Programme as it is meant for all farmers.
Addressing farmers from Mudzi at Katsande Secondary School at the launch of the programme, Cottco Managing Director Pious Manamike, said the programme does not discriminate along any forms including political affiliation and urged farmers to come on board and revive cotton production in the country.
“The President is the president for everyone so you should come and benefit to improve cotton production,” he said.
Mashonaland East Minister of State for Provincial Affairs, Cde David Musabayana, hailed the cotton programme and appealed for consideration of groundnuts in the Presidential Input Support Programme as most areas in the province grow the crop.
“With most areas in the province having the favourable climate for groundnuts production I think it is important to consider the crop under the Presidential Input Support Programme,” said Cde Musabayana.
The government has intensified growing of cotton in Mashonaland East with Uzumba, Mutoko and Mudzi topping the list.
Farmers were handed over the inputs for this season at the event.
The government is targeting 400 000 households under the Cotton Presidential Input Support Programme.
