With the rains now upon the country, farmers have been urged to ensure that they use certified seed varieties.
The call was made at a field day at Kaja Farm in Vumba, where over 500 farmers gathered for the event.
A perennial problem for farmers has been that of low yields as a result of using seed varieties that are not certified.
A Vumba based farmer, Mr Silas Kaja said such practices ultimately affect productivity in the long and also eat into the farmers’ earnings.
The country is on a deliberate path to achieve food self sufficiency with the Command Agriculture Programme bearing testimony to this drive.
