biti tendai.jpgFinance Minister Tendai Biti has confirmed that the amount of diamonds sold as of yesterday is around US$46m and not US$72m as previously reported.

In a telephone interview, Mr Biti said the reconciliation is being done by the Zimbabwe Mining Development Corporation, Zimbabwe Revenue Authority and the mining companies – Mbada and Canadile.

He said if the fiscus gets at list US$15m from the total sale, government would have done well, considering the costs incurred by the companies to extract the diamonds, which include machinery, labour and other logistics.

Minister Biti said he will give a clear picture later in the day after the reconciliation is done.
