Police in Chegutu have recovered loot worth about US$18 000 and arrested a 23-year-old man in connection with the recovered stolen property.
The recovered property includes 15 plasma television sets, lap tops and desk top computers, digital television decoders, public address systems and radio sets.
The property is believed to have been stolen from Chegutu’s low density suburb following a spate of unlawful entry and theft.
Mashonaland West Provincial Police Spokesperson, Inspector Clemence Mabgweazara said all the appliances were stolen during day time with owners of a 55 inch plasma television set said to have reported it stolen just after they left their homestead on Christmas day last year.
He also said the goods were stolen between October last year to this June, adding that some appliances were recovered from members of the public who had purchased them.
The suspect is a former convict who once served a 4-year jail term for theft of bicycles from a school in the town.
Inspector Mabgweazara urged members of the public to avoid buying stolen property as doing so renders them liable to prosecution.
