The United States says it is committed to the re-engagement process to improve economic relations with Zimbabwe.

This came out when visiting US envoy Ms Carol O’Connell paid a courtesy call on Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo.

Ms Carol O’Connell is the US deputy assistant secretary bureau of African affairs.

The two deliberated on the possible solutions and ways of improving economic ties for the benefit of Zimbabweans.

On the issue of the illegal sanctions that have had a negative effect on Zimbabwe’s economy, the US envoy maintained that the sanctions are targeted at individuals.

She, however, said her country is interested in the electoral process in order to remove the sanctions.

Economic ties between the two countries took a nosedive after Zimbabwe embarked on the land reform programme to address the imbalances brought about by the former colonisers.
