Urban farmers have hailed the programme which they say will boost food security as their crop is in good condition and they are expecting high yields.

The farmers hailed the Head of State and Government and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, President Robert Mugabe’s visionary leadership for assisting them with inputs to boost food security at household level.

“We are currently expecting to get a tonne of maize ….this will help as we won’t be buying mealie meal and this will also help us to channel our money to other things. We are grateful to the President for the scheme,” said one farmer.

Last year, President Mugabe launched the US$33 million Presidential Well Wishers Agriculture Inputs Scheme aimed at boosting food security at household level.

Under the scheme, both rural and urban farmers received inputs that included seed and fertilisers.
