MDC Alliance’s deputy national chairperson Job Sikhala has been remanded in custody to 24 July when he appeared before Bikita magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa this morning.
Sikhala was arrested on Tuesday for allegedly subverting a constitutionally elected government.
He was represented by Mr Aleck Muchadehama, Douglas Mwonzora and others.
Sikhala’s lawyers had applied for refusal to placed on remand citing over detention and ill treatment during his detention.
Their application was, however, dismissed by magistrate Gofa.
In an interview after the court ruling , Mr Muchadehama said they are likely to appeal the decision by the magistrate to place their client on remand.
“Today he appeared for initial remand and we made an application that he should be released on the basis that the 48 hours that the police are obliged to hold him had expired. We also placed a number of complaints against the police and we applied that those cases be investigated,” he said.
Mr Muchadehama said by day end this Tuesday (today) they will apply for bail at the Masvingo Magistrates Court.
