Discipline, patriotism and respect for the Constitution are key for economic development of Zimbabwe.

As the country commemorates Unity Day on the 22nd of December, analysts say there are more economic benefits derived if there is unity among Zimbabweans.

The national flag and the national anthem are symbols of respect for national interests and patriotism.

In addition the Constitution provides guidelines on the need to unite for a common purpose as one nation.

Legal expert Advocate Tazorora Musarurwa said the preamble of the Constitution reminds the nation on the need to respect historical background of Zimbabwe and diversity of opinions.

University of Zimbabwe lecturer Dr Ushehwedu Kufakurinani said as Zimbabweans commemorate Unity Day this Saturday, they should reflect on the more economic benefits that are derived through unity.

The establishment of the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission is testimony of the desire to have a united country with a view to achieve economic and social development.
