The Turkish Travel Agencies Association, an influential voice in the East European nations’ tourism sector, will be sending a delegation to prepare and work out a plan on feeding tourism traffic into Zimbabwe.

Efforts by Zimbabwe to tap into the growing Turkish industry are showing positive signs as the European nations’ largest travel agencies body has proposed a marriage between the two nations that will create an avenue to promote arrivals into the country.

The quest to grow this industry which is lauded as a low hanging fruit is pushing authorities to explore new markets that will improve arrival figures into Zimbabwe and bolster earnings.

In this vein, Turkey presents the perfect conduit to achieve this objective as alluded to by the Turkish Travel Agencies Association head, Mr Basaran Ulusoy.

Zimbabwe currently handles just above 2 million tourist arrivals annually and most of these have been coming from western markets such as the UK and USA, with very few from Turkey despite the existence of bilateral ties.

Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) Head Corporate Affairs, Mr Godfrey Koti said a union with this influential body is hence a silver lining for tourism authorities.

Zimbabwe’s maiden participation at the 12th edition of the Turkey Travel Show has thus positioned the industry in this source market on revelations that its national carrier, Turkish Airlines is looking at introducing flights to ply the Harare route next year.
