Disclosing one’s ailment has been hailed as key to getting appropriate assistance. This was said by popular musician Oliver Mtukudzi when he disclosed his diabetic status at Chitungwiza General Hospital.
It is common for people to speculate and sometimes say unkind words whenever one starts showing signs of ill health. Music maestro Oliver Mtukudzi has come out in the open and declared that he is a diabetic patient and has been living with the disease for the past fifteen years.
Tuku made the remarks at an occasion organised by the Zimbabwe Diabetic Association Chitungwiza branch.
Fellow musician Cephas Mashakada who is also diabetic together with Mechanic Manyeruke and Hosiah Chipanga were also present to offer moral support as Tuku declared his diabetic status.
Chitungwiza hospital Chief Executive Dr Obediah Moyo said no-one is immune to diabetes.
Diabetes patients from Chitungwiza and surrounding areas attended the occasion with one of patients Mr Max Marikopo giving a heart rending testimony of how he has managed the disease.
Tuku said he will organise a show to coincide with the World Diabetes day which falls on the 14th of November of which the proceeds will be forwarded to the Zimbabwe Diabetic Association. Two local companies Zundine Trading and Statmed also took the opportunity to present gluco- meters which are used to test sugar levels to Chitungwiza hospital, Mtukudzi and Mashakada, Zimbabwe Broadcasting Holdings and Zimpapers.
