The Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ) in conjunction with the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) have embarked on a programme to educate motorists on the traffic box junction.
The upgraded highway code brought in the box junction which is used to control the flow of traffic on busy intersections.
The TSCZ has partnered with the ZRP to educate motorists on the functions of the box junction and its effectiveness in controlling traffic.
TSCZ spokesperson Mr Enerst Muchena says motorists must not enter the box junction if there are cars already in the box despite the robots indicating green.
The box junction is a new traffic regulation that is in accordance with the SADC traffic signs guidelines.
The idea is to come up with uniform traffic signs that will allow drivers to use roads in the region without encountering any challenges.
While the TSCZ and the police were conducting their awareness campaigns at corner Julius Nyerere and Robert Mugabe road in the capital, touts continued with their business destructing the free floor of traffic.
The practise is a clear indication that attitude is still a problem in addressing traffic offences especially in the central business district.
