Zimbabwean junior tennis players found the going tough in the second leg of the ITF 18 and Under tournament with the hosts’ remaining players Thabo Ncube and Kimberly Kaome losing their encounters in straight sets.

Restricted to watching from the sidelines – this is the story of Zimbabwean players competing at the ITF 18 and Under Junior Tennis Extravaganza at Harare Sports Club where no local player was able to progress to the quarter-finals.

Thabo Ncube faced Faris Zakariya of Egypt but lost that contest 7-6, 6-2.

With hopes in the boy’s category pinned on Thabo, it was disappointment for Ncube who will be hoping for an improved performance in the 3rd and final leg.

In the girls’ category, it was an early exit for Kimberly Bhunu with Kimberly Kaome the only Zimbabwean player to make it to the second round.

Kaome, however, lost her second round encounter 6-1, 6-1 to Muskan Gupta of India.

With Zimbabwe failing to provide a quarter-finalist in both the boys and girls categories, Tennis Zimbabwe will be hoping the third leg will be one of better fortunes.
