court.jpgThe trial of ZIMRA official, Victor Nyathi, who is facing charges of theft of tollgate fees, could not kick off at the Harare regional court after the investigating officer failed to record a statement from one of the state’s key State witnesses.

The prosecutor, Mr Michael Reza said the statement is very critical before the trial commences as the State wants to furnish the defence with comprehensive State papers.

The trial has been postponed to January next year.

It is the State’s case that Nyathi pocketed close to US$1,8 million from tollgate fees from various tollgates around Harare.

Earlier, Nyathi’s defence lawyer said his client is being sacrificed adding that there could be more people involved in the scam.
