tobacco hassien.jpgTobacco farmers have so far delivered nearly six million kilogrammes of the golden leaf valued at over US$21 million since the beginning of the selling season.

Around 4,2 million kilogrammes of flue cured tobacco have been sold under the contract system, while the three auction floors account for 1,6 million kilogrammes.

According to statistics from the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB) released this Tuesday, the seasonal average price per kilogramme of tobacco is pegged at US$2, 60 per kilogramme.

At least 144 million kilogrammes of the golden leaf are still being expected at the tobacco floors as statistics from TIMB indicate that 150 million kilogrammes of the golden leaf should be delivered before the close of the selling season.
