Preparations for the 2018 tobacco marketing season are well on course with Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB) saying on Monday next week booked farmers will start delivering their crop ahead of the opening day of selling on the 21st of March.

A visit by ZBC News to some auction floors revealed that there is high anticipation from small scale traders and the auction floors.

Anticipation of a brisk 2018 tobacco marketing season is high with the regulator saying all systems are in place as deliveries commence next Monday.

 “We are ready and are prepared. On Monday farmers should be visiting floors,” said TIMB spokesperson Mr Isheunesu Moyo.

Informal business people are already putting up structures for their wares in readiness of the opening of the tobacco selling season which is associated with high activity.

Booking agent at Tobacco Sales Floor Annah Mangwiro confirmed they have already started booking farmers and are looking forward to an eventful season.

“We already started receiving bookings,” Ms Mangwiro said.

One hundred and eighty-two thousand tobacco farmers registered with TIMB to trade tobacco this season up from 82 000 last season.
