Preparations for the 2019 tobacco farming season are well on course with the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board (TIMB) so far distributing inputs to the major tobacco farming areas.

The inputs are from the $70 million Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) support facility.

Farmers from Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland East, Mashonaland Central, Mashonaland West and Manicaland who are not contracted tobacco farmers have started benefitting from the RBZ funded $70 million Tobacco Inputs Credit Scheme (TICS) administered by the TIMB.

Some farmers who accessed the inputs hailed the new development saying this will help them with planning for the 2019 season by preparing seed beds in time.

The scheme will also give competition to firms contracting farmers to grow the crop and boost production of the golden leaf which earns the country the much needed foreign currency.
