ivory-bust-.jpgPolice in Harare have arrested three suspected poachers, and recovered more than 40 kg of ivory.

The three suspected poachers, George Vushe, Tongai Matsika and Christopher Mbasera were arrested yesterday at a local company in Harare’s Willowvale Industrial area.

Police Border control spokesperson Assistant Inspector Godfrey Mubaiwa said the organisation has established a specialised unit to deal with poaching in the country.

Investigations indicate that the recovered ivory could have come from Gokwe.

Recently, government put measures to reduce poaching following a visit by the Cites Secretary General who raised concern over the increase of Rhino and elephant poaching.

The national parks and wildlife management authority, home affairs and the army have partnered in a move to intensify efforts to reduce poaching.
