mahoso.jpgThe selection of Russia and Qatar to host the 2018 and 2022 World Cup has been viewed as a shift of global power from the western block and a major boost to previously marginalised countries.

The selection of the two nations has been celebrated in third world countries and Zimbabwe in particular.

Political analysts, Dr Tafataona Mahoso and Professor Jonathan Moyo say the Russian victory is confirmation of the shift of power in global politics and that even the west is now beginning to understand that other countries from the eastern block and the third world have become a force in global politics.

Like China, Russia has stuck with Zimbabwe as an all weather friend.

The two countries blocked attempts by Britain and her allies to impose UN sanctions on Zimbababwe for embarking on the Land Reform Programme.
