zesa.jpgKuwadzana 2 and Crowborough North residents in the capital were left without electricity supply after thieves stole power cables early Sunday morning.

The thieves are alleged to have dug out the underground cables and used steel pipes to climb electricity poles before cutting overhead cables.

Residents said they managed to apprehend one of the alleged thieves whom they handed over to the police.

“We woke up thinking that maybe the thieves wanted to steal our car in the carport and managed to catch one of the robbers,” said one resident.

Kuwadzana police would however not confirm the incident.

Cases of vandalism and theft of cables have affected such service providers as ZESA, TelOne and the NRZ.

The railways’ electrified section between Dabuka and Harare was heavily vandalised and stripped of power cables.
