President-elect Emmerson Mnangagwa has expressed gratitude to the people of Zimbabwe for voting resoundingly for him in the just ended 2018 harmonised elections.

Posting on his official Twitter account at 0206 hours today soon after being declared the winner of the Presidential race, he said:

“Thank you Zimbabwe! I am humbled to be elected President of the Second Republic of Zimbabwe. Though we may have been divided at the polls, we are united in our dreams.”

The President-elect said this is a new beginning, urging all Zimbabweans to join hands, in peace, unity and love, to build a new Zimbabwe for all.

The Zanu PF Presidential candidate Cde Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa won the election with 2 460 463 votes which translates to 50.8 percent, while his closest rival Advocate Nelson Chamisa of the MDC Alliance got 2 147 436 (44.3%). On 3rd position is Thokozani Khupe of the MDC-T with 45 573 votes, translating to 0.9 percent of the total vote.
