The higher and tertiary education transformation taskforce has identified key areas requiring reforms in order to enhance industrialisation and modernisation.

Transformation of higher and tertiary institutions in Zimbabwe has moved a gear up with the taskforce comprising vice chancellors in local universities identifying critical areas needing reforms.

This follows a recent visit to foreign universities which unearthed some international best practices adopted in high growth economies like Singapore, South Korea, Malaysia, Brazil, India and Cuba.

Higher and tertiary education transformation taskforce chairperson, Professor Levi Nyagura said local universities must now develop super specialists to carry out researches which end up as technological products or businesses.

Borrowing from international best practice, the taskforce is recommending upgrading of local university curriculums and staff qualifications.

Academic staff will be required to specialise more and devote 40 percent of productive time to research.
