The Harare Open Wheelchair Tennis tournament is set for thrilling times with defending champion Nyasha Mharakurwa expected to meet Chilean player Robinson Mendez in an explosive quarter-finals match this Friday.
Defending champion Nyasha Mharakurwa jetted into the country late on Wednesday afternoon from South Africa for the tournament and immediately got down to business sweeping aside his opponents to set up a date with top Chilean player Robinson Mendez.
Several foreign players from South Africa and two Chilean players, Robinson Mendez and Cristian Aranda are taking part in the tennis tournament giving it a truly international feel.
Wheelchair Tennis Association President, Lewis Garaba says this yearâ€™s tournament is progressing well.
The Chliean, Mendez is ranked 25th in the world, while his compatriotÂ Aranda is ranked 79th.The Harare Open Wheelchair tournament is now part of the NEC ITF tour circuit.
The tournament will run until Saturday and will end with a fund-raising gala and prize-giving dinner at a local hotel.
The players will compete in the senior men, senior women and the Quads section. The tournament is now its second year.
