The Meteorological Services Department has rubbished as false and baseless social media claims insinuating that people should brace up for temperatures below zero degrees celcius next week.
Senior Meteorologist, Mr Tich Zinyemba dispelled social media rumours which have sent most people panicking that temperatures will go down to minus 12 degrees celsius in parts of South Africa and Zimbabwe.
“Of course we are almost in winter season and temperatures will decrease but they will never reach sub zero limits. People must be care where they get some information from,” Mr Zinyemba warned.
Chenai Masango Sithole, a weather forecaster at the Meteorological Services Department said a wet spell will persist in the next few days around the southern and western parts of the country.
The ZBC News desk has in the past few weeks received several calls from people from across the country who wanted to verify the authenticity of the social media rumours on a cold spell to hit the country next week and some claims that snow would fall.
