A survey conducted by ZBC News in the capital showed that it was business as usual in most schools though the opening day was mostly characterised by a low turnout of pupils.

Most teachers were busy in their classrooms while some conducted meetings for the beginning of the year.

On Monday, various teachers’ organisations had given conflicting views concerning the purported strike with the Progressive Teachers’ Union calling for a sit in while the Zimbabwe Teachers Association (ZMTA) encouraged teachers to report for duty to give negotiations a chance.
