Teachers have demanded the realignment of the Education Act and the Public Service Act to the new Constitution as this is crucial to ensure rights pertaining to their welfare and conditions of service are honoured at the Joint Negotiating Forum.

Discussing issues of the new curriculum, conditions of service and collective bargaining at the ongoing Zimbabwe Teachers’ Association National Conference, the teachers said it should be an urgent matter to re-align the two laws to the new constitution.

Renowned educationist Professor Chester Nziramasanga has also challenged the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education as it implements the new curriculum to ensure information demanded by the public is adequately availed.

Professor Nziramasanga says as the new curriculum is being implemented , the ministry needs to clarify on issues such as subjects being taught inconsistently and how mass displays a component of physical education has come to be defined as a stand-alone subject among other issues.

The main issues under the spotlight at the 36th ZIMTA Annual National Conference include curriculum reforms and implementation, salaries and conditions of service and collective bargaining in Zimbabwe.
