A 22 year old Gwanda man Honest Moyo suspected of murdering a mentally ill man for ritual purposes has appeared in court and denied the allegations levelled against him.

Moyo who is accused murdering Mduna last month has disowned his warned and cautioned statement alleging that he was tortured by the police and crucial information had been omitted.

Moyo of Mawane area in Guyu was in court before Gwanda magistrate, Mr Obedience Matare.

In his earlier statement the accused said he had found the dead man whom he admitted to beheading and removing private parts, before burying  the mutilated body in a shallow grave.

After the act Moyo said he went to look for one Cosmas Zhou at Geelong mine who had requested the parts promising to pay US$25 000.

The initial statement further states that after failing to locate Zhou, the suspect took the head and private parts to his home in Mawane were he was arrested after his cousin saw him with the body parts.

However, in the confirmation statement form, Moyo disowned the statement claiming that police left out crucial elements that he did not commit the offence but found some people killing the now deceased, Mduna.

The killers whom the suspect claims to have seen are said to have run away.

Moyo also claims to have made the statement under duress as he was allegedly tortured by the police.

Allegations against Moyo are that he murdered a mentally ill man popularly known as Mduna in Collen Bawn before beheading him and removing his private parts.

He was remanded in custody to 21 July.
